This year our Indigenous students learnt some Torres Strait Islander dances with the help of Margaret (Malchai’s mum). Margaret did an amazing job of teaching both songs and dances of Taba Naba and Ta Ma Nee in Miriam Mir language.

The children performed at the fete and looked beautiful in their grass skirts and colourful flowers.

Lyrics to Tuba Nuba:
Taba naba naba norem Tuki penai siri mi Dinghy e nabare Miko keimi Serere nabare Taba naba norem style s.t.y.l.e
This translates to:
Come on let's go to the reef Get into the dinghy when the morning tide is low Let us row to the edge of the reef Come on let's go to the reef.
The 27th May – 3rd June marks the National Reconciliation Week and we hope to share the message “don’t keep history a mystery. Learn, share, grow”.
