Prep C News

Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a happy holiday and are feeling refreshed for a busy Term 2. Term 2 is always an exciting term with the fete happening at the end of Week 2.Attached is a timetable for Term 2 outlining a number of changes.  As well as taking part in the whole school Parade on Mondays, we will attend Junior Assembly on Friday mornings at 9:00am in the Activities room. Parents are welcome to attend both assemblies. We need to leave at 8:55am on Friday mornings to get to the Activities room on time. If you are running late on Fridays and we have already gone, you will need to bring your child over to join us. You can leave your child’s bag outside the classroom if needed. Each week at Junior Assembly, a child is selected as Student of the Week and they will be awarded a certificate by Mrs Wood. If your child is the ‘lucky one’, I will send home a notice in your child’s home folder on Thursday to advise you. Please remember to check! This term we will commence having a computer lesson in the library computer lab on Fridays 12:00-12:30. In week two of this term, we will start our show and tell program. Please find attached in a separate letter containing the format and roster that we will follow. The children will also start taking home early readers. Information on how you can assist your child to read will be sent home later in the week. Readers will be changed over on Mondays and Thursdays. I will put a roster on the front door. If you are able to assist with changing the books, please add your name. Anyone who is able to come in and read with the children one-on-one would also be a great help. Let me know if you would like to assist with improving children’s early literacy skills. This term we will join the rest of the school for Walking Wheeling Wednesday. On Wednesdays, the children tell me how they got to school. If they walked, rode a scooter, bike, car-pooled or caught public transport, they receive a sticker on a special card. They may also be able to receive prizes from Mr Christensan, the Deputy Principal! In the last few weeks of Term 1, I completed an Early Start Numeracy and Literacy screen on all children. Early Start is being used to monitor student progress from Prep (entry level) to Year 2. All Queensland state primary schools are using Early Start for decision making in curriculum planning and to more effectively differentiate teaching and learning. If you are interested in learning more, please see me.A few house-keeping points:•    Please pack your child a fruit snack each day. It is amazing what peer pressure will make non-fruit eaters do! It is easier and quicker for your child to eat fruit that has been cut up rather than a whole orange or apple.•    If your child is away due to illness or a holiday, please advise the school office on 3426 4333, or the prep classroom direct on 3391 7163.•    Preps will be performing a dance and song number at the fete. We will present at 10:40am. More info to come.•    Check homework folders every day. Once you have read the notices please remove from the folder. •    Please label ALL your child’s clothing, lunchboxes and drink bottles. Now that it is getting colder in the mornings, please name jumpers especially as they usually come off as the day warms up.•    Please provide your child with spoons to eat yoghurt and forks for other lunch box items. This assists the children to become independent in preparation for Year 1. Dates of interest:•    Anzac Day Public holiday- Friday 25 April•    Junction Park Fete- Sunday 4 May

Kind regards

Amanda and Choli
