Brisbane Writer's Festival

4/09/2018

Thank you to all the students, teachers and parents who came along to this year’s Writers Festival. The workshops were truly inspirational and our students were impeccable ambassadors for Junction Park. Not only was their behaviour exemplary, receiving many compliments from the general public, but their enthusiasm and participation in the workshops was outstanding. The author Lance Balchin was amazed at the higher-order questions our students posed when discussing big, philosophical ideas about what it is to be human.  Illustrator and author Peter Carnavas was equally impressed and selected the work of Mei S, Georgia O and Lola C-W to share with the whole auditorium.

Both the Year 2s and 3s thoroughly enjoyed Peter’s workshops where he showed us how to create illustrations that generated story ideas. The Year 4s also enjoyed creating mini comics with Alisha Jade, and were totally blown away by the illustrations and concepts behind Lance Balchin’s Mechanica.  The Year 5s and 6s reported that Dr Karl was hilarious and Jessica Watson was fascinating.  Whilst Jol and Kate Temple shared with us their top tips for writing and their beautifully clever stories. Mick Elliott was not only highly entertaining but he demonstrated to the Year 3s how you can create stories from just about anything … even creepy spiders.

Thank you once again to our own aspiring writers.
